LatinX at Smartsheet: Driving prosperity, power, and progress all around the world

Now more than ever, LatinX people are driving prosperity, wielding power, and propelling progress both in the United States and across the globe. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we highlight and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our Hispanic communities here at Smartsheet with the help of the Hispanic/LatinX employee resource group (ERG).

This annual observance, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, is an opportunity to bring employees together to foster connections and promote cultural diversity. As a multinational team, including over 300 employees from Costa Rica alone, Smartsheet is dedicated to maintaining an inclusive workplace that encourages employees to show up as their unique, authentic selves every day. We believe that this diversity is instrumental in fueling creative innovation, effective collaboration, and continued growth.

How we’re celebrating our Hispanic communities

The Hispanic/LatinX ERG kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a number of fun, interactive, and educational events with an underlying focus on individual development and career growth, including a Latinas in Tech fireside chat, a partnership with Edlyft to help underserved students with an interest in tech, and even an empanada making class! In addition to organized events, numerous ¡Actividades Divertidas!, or “fun activities,” took place in the form of lively, themed conversations in the ERG Slack channel.

All month long, ERG members participated in games and conversations about Hispanic and LatinX culture, including topics like music, dance, virtual tours of art and historical sites, books, movies, and more.

Latinas in Tech fireside chat

As a corporate partner of Latinas in Tech – a global nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting, supporting, and empowering Latina women in technical roles – the Hispanic/LatinX ERG organized a panel of Latina professionals to chat about their experience with professional development, mentorship, and how to navigate professional growth and make a difference within the community.

Edlyft partnership

Partnering with Edlyft – an organization that gives students from underrepresented populations a way to explore careers in tech – Smartsheet participated in a panel to prep college students from underserved communities for the Fall tech recruitment season. As part of our ongoing partnership, ERG members volunteered for one-on-one coffee chats with young professionals to share their experiences as Hispanic and LatinX tech employees.

Popcorn corner

ERG members got together to share and discuss popular movies and media, like Coco and Encanto, and how they contribute to a growing global respect and representation of Hispanic and LatinX culture.

Empanada making class

30 lucky Smartsheet employees participated in a hands-on class with an empanada making expert. Together, they learned to mix, roll, cut, and fill guava empanadas, and made the rest of us jealous while doing it!
